A solution is never one-sided, and should not sacrifice the health and well being of citizens. Regarding the Las Vegas pipeline, sacrificing large rural economies in two states (NV & UT) to grow a city is NOT a solution.

An example of a threatening water project is one whereby Las Vegas proposes to mine (remove without replacing) groundwater from rural Nevada by building a 300 mile pipeline north to pristine parts of the state. Scarce desert water features, as seen in my photograph below, would be drained. This pond is on a Canadian Geese flyway; note geese in the pond. I believe this pipleine project is misguided public policy and both rural and urban communities and governments need to resist such especially when there are alternatives. Las Vegas uses about 175 gals/person perday, while its neighbors use 110. Some cities like Brisbane, Australia use only 32 gals/person/day. Three studies indicate that the project would not be needed if Las Vegas conserved like its sister cities Photo Credit: Terry Marasco Oct, '09Geese resting in Spring Valley pond on migration route. This would dry up if the pipleine proceeds.
